How to Market My Business on Social Media Myself

September 3, 2026·7 min read

You Don't Need to Post Every Day to Win

Most DIY social media advice assumes you have hours a day to spend. You don't. The good news: consistency at a sustainable pace beats intensity that burns out after three weeks. Two to three quality posts a week, kept up for a year, outperforms daily posting that stops in month two.

Pick One Platform First

Trying to run Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and LinkedIn simultaneously as a solo owner is how most DIY efforts collapse. Pick the one platform where your actual customers spend time - for most local service businesses, that's Instagram or Facebook, with Google Business Profile posts often mattering more than either. Get one platform genuinely consistent before adding a second.

A Content System That Doesn't Require Creativity Every Day

Chasing a fresh idea every post is exhausting and unsustainable. Instead, rotate through a fixed set of content types:

  • Before/after or finished work. The single highest-performing content type for most service businesses - visual proof of the job done well.
  • Behind-the-scenes. A quick video of the actual work happening builds trust and requires zero editing skill.
  • Customer wins. A happy customer, a great review screenshot, a quick testimonial clip.
  • Educational tips. One quick, useful tip related to your trade - this is what earns saves and shares, which the algorithm rewards.
  • Team and personality. Introduce your team, show the human side of the business. People hire people, not logos.

Batch Your Content Creation

Instead of trying to think of something new every morning, spend one hour a week (or even a month) capturing photos and short videos on your phone during normal work. Then batch-schedule posts using a free or low-cost scheduling tool so you're not creating content live every single day.

Respond, Don't Just Post

Engagement matters as much as posting frequency. Reply to every comment and DM within the same day if possible - this is one of the highest-leverage, lowest-effort things a busy owner can personally do that an outsourced team can't replicate as authentically.

Know When DIY Social Stops Being the Right Move

DIY social media works well for building brand personality and local trust. It works less well as your only lead-generation strategy, especially once you're missing follow-up on the inbound interest social media does generate - a DM that goes unanswered for two days is a lost customer regardless of how good the post was. If your calls and messages are already going unanswered, fix that leak before investing more time into content that drives more of the same traffic into the same gap.

What to Hand Off First If You Do Outsource

If social media eventually becomes too much on top of everything else, the content and voice are usually the last thing worth outsourcing - your authentic perspective is hard to replicate. The follow-up and booking process behind it is the first thing worth automating.

Keep the Voice, Automate the Follow-Up

Crescore Systems handles the mechanical side - missed-call text-back, lead follow-up, review requests - so your time posting on social actually converts instead of leaking out the back door. Book a free audit and we'll show you where those leads are currently going.
